Heading to Napa Valley for a tour of the wine country?? Well, ZD Wines is a "must visit" for anyone interested in tasting some full-flavored, aromatic wines! On a recent visit to ZD we explored the heavenly essence of their Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Riesling vintages. Exquisite!! pretty much wraps up anything I have to say about ZD Wines!!
I chose ZD Wines because I wanted to visit family owned wineries during this first visit to Napa with kimistyle. Founded in 1969, by two aerospace engineers, Gino Zepponi and Norman de Leuze, in a small building in the Caneros region of Sonoma Valley, their first Pinot Noir and Riesling were produced. In 1979 they moved the winery from Sonoma Valley to the Rutherford appellation of Napa Valley where they today have established a passion and enthusiasm for wine making that can not go without being noted!! Robert and Brett de Leuze, the sons of Norman and Rosa Lee, were kind enough to guide us through the winery, explaining about the wine process and why they have built up two organic estate vineyards! ZD stands for "zero defects" and once you try their wines you'll understand that isn't an understatement!!
Their Chardonnay Reserve is bursting with ripe tropical fruit and has received 87 points from the wine spectator, November 2005. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep and complex wine full of blackberry and plum aromas. Most spectacular was their Pinot Noir Reserve, from the Caneros region of Sonoma Valley! Aromas of plum and black cherry explode while hints of rhubarb sweep across your palate! Silky smooth tannins and subtle berry flavors will amazingly surprise your experience of this wine!
I would recommend pairing their Chardonnay or Chardonnay Reserve with our Shrimp Diablo. The spiciness of the sauce will mingle nicely with the fruits and the calming effect of this Chardonnay! Their Pinot Noir Reserve would work with either our Baked Halibut topped with Morel Mushroom Cr￨me or our Grilled Marinated Lamb T-Bones with French Potato Gratin!! Finally their Cabernet Sauvignon would "rock your socks" together with our Beef Tenderloin Fillet stuffed with Bleu d'Auvergne and drizzled with Truffle Oil!!
